Wolfgang Parker

Wolfgang Parker formed in Manchester in 2008 as a five-piece band. Their debut album 'Ashes to Ashes' included the track 'Among The Ash Heaps (And Millionaires),' which became something of a calling card for them. The band's name nods to both Mozart and their industrial hometown.

Their songs often dealt with social and economic themes, with lyrics that could feel raw and politically charged. This approach drew attention, though not always positive, with some listeners finding it too bleak. Other songs in their catalog include 'Four Hours Into Nighttime' and 'English Lover.'

They followed up with albums like 'City of Shadows' and 'The Great Divide,' maintaining a focus on lyrical content that examined inequality and urban life. The music had a haunting quality that suited the subject matter, though they avoided becoming purely a protest act.

Vocalist Jake Parker wrote most of the lyrics, with Sam Hopkins and Liam Daws on guitars, James Smith on bass, and Tom Wingfield on drums. Their work stayed grounded in the realities they observed around them, without much of the romanticism common in indie music at the time.
