Hawksley Workman

Hawksley Workman came out of Kingston, Ontario, and put out his first album, "For Him and the Girls," in 2001. That record had a mix of rock, folk, and electronic touches, and it set the tone for what he'd do later. Songs like "A House Or Maybe A Boat" and "Anger As Beauty" show his way with lyrics that feel personal and a bit raw.

He kept making albums through the 2000s, including "Lover/Fighter" in 2002 and "Between the Beautifuls" in 2006. The music doesn't sit in one genre, there's rock in there, and folk, and some electronic textures. His voice has a distinctive quality that carries through tracks like "Autumn's Here" and "Baby This Night."

Workman has played with other musicians over time, like bassist Dave Koster and drummer Liam O'Neill. He also did some work with Sarah Slean. The collaborations didn't change his core sound so much as give it different shades here and there.
