World of Tanks formed in Poland in 1999, started by three friends from childhood: Tomasz Sikorski, Wojciech Mazolewski, and Piotr Zielinski. They went by the nicknames Tomash, Wojtek, and Piter. Their first album came out in 2001, named after the song "Studzianki."
That song, "Studzianki," became their best-known track. The band put out several more albums over the next decade or so, including Fantomy in 2003, Niezależni in 2006, Powrót in 2009, and Ostatni krzyk in 2013. Their music sometimes drew from punk and folk sounds, and they occasionally worked with rappers.
Their lyrics sometimes touched on political themes, which led to some friction. There were also stories about internal disagreements and other troubles that followed them around. The three original members stayed together through most of it.
