Worm Ouroboros formed in 2003 around bassist and vocalist Aaron Turner, who also sang for Isis and Old Man Gloom, and guitarist Will Lindsay from Greymachine. They made dense, layered music that drew from black metal, post-rock, and drone, with songs like 'Further Out' and 'Penumbra' building hypnotic, unsettling atmospheres.
Their self-titled debut came out in 2005, followed by 'Come to the Ruins' in 2007 and 'Infinite Fields' in 2009. The records got attention for their uncompromising intensity and emotional weight, though the band's extreme sound and dark themes kept them a niche act.
Turner and Lindsay cited influences ranging from King Crimson's prog to Merzbow's noise experiments, and their work often felt like it was pulling from that same well of cosmic dread found in H.P. Lovecraft's writing. Worm Ouroboros didn't fit neatly into any one genre, which was part of what made their music stand out to listeners willing to follow them into those shadows.
