X Alfonso was born in Havana in 1969 into a creative family. His father, Carlos Alfonso, was a singer-songwriter, and his mother, Leonor Huergo, was an actress and dancer. He formed his band in the early 1990s, and their debut album 'Ciudadano X' came out in 1995. The title track from that record became a hit in Cuba.
His 2005 album 'Habana Blues' brought him wider attention. The title track, which features guitarist Ry Cooder, is probably his best-known song.
X Alfonso's music often mixes Cuban rhythms with rock and hip-hop. He has also been involved in social and environmental work, co-founding a non-profit organization called Proyecto X in 2009.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
