Editor's note

X-Time mixed Brazilian rhythms with rock.

A trio from Rio who blended samba and bossa nova into their own sound.

If you're new to them, start with "2h da Madrugada" or "Daniela." Both songs capture that mix of laid-back rhythm and rock energy they did so well.

They took Brazilian rhythms like samba and bossa nova and gave them a rock edge, which felt fresh in the late '80s and '90s. Songs like "2h da Madrugada" became a signature, and tracks such as "Meu mundo é seu" kept a following long after the band stopped. Their work, from the 1993 debut to 2004's Relicário, holds up as a distinct chapter in Brazilian music.

X-Time formed in 1988 with Alexandre Kassin, Marcelo Camelo, and Rodrigo Amarante. They released their first album in 1993 and kept going until 2008, putting out records like Boom Boom Kid in 1998 and a live set from Circo Voador in 2001.

X-Time formed in 1988 when three friends, Alexandre Kassin, Marcelo Camelo, and Rodrigo Amarante, started playing together. They worked with Brazilian rhythms like samba and bossa nova, mixing them with rock. Their first album came out in 1993, simply called X-Time.

In 1998 they released Boom Boom Kid, which had the song "2h da Madrugada." That track became their most recognizable piece. They also put out a live recording from Rio de Janeiro's Circo Voador in 2001, and their last studio album, Relicário, arrived in 2004.

The band stopped working together in 2008. Their music, including songs like "Meu mundo é seu" and "Daniela," kept a following in Brazil after they were done.
