Xama Nóis formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1996, with Beto Jamaica on vocals, Dan Miranda on bass, and Vitão on drums. Their sound mixed Brazilian rhythms with funk and hip-hop, and early tracks like 'Aumenta o Som Aí' and 'Fazendo Sucesso no Coração da Meninas' caught on locally before spreading wider.
Their 2002 debut album 'Aumenta o Som Aí' gave them a national platform, and later releases like 'Funk On' (2006) and 'Brasil Funk' (2012) kept their profile up through the 2000s. Songs such as 'Eva Meu Amor' and 'Tá Estourado' became staples in their sets, built around that three-piece rhythm section and Jamaica's vocal delivery.
They kept working after that, but the incident highlighted how their music often dealt with social issues facing marginalized communities, a thread that ran through much of their material.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
