Xamegao do Forró formed in 1994 in Salvador, Bahia, with childhood friends Antônio José "Toinho do Forró," José "Zé Carlos," and Antônio "Toninho do Surdo." They started playing traditional forró but soon began mixing in funk, hip-hop, and samba elements, which didn't sit well with some traditional listeners at first.
Their 1998 track "Sou 100% Abusado" became one of their better-known songs. They kept recording through the early 2000s with albums like Sem Limites and Xeque-Mate, and put out O Baile do Passinho in 2011. Some of their lyrics drew criticism for being sexually suggestive, though the band seemed to treat them as playful rather than serious.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
