A Brazilian band that blended metal, hardcore, and local rhythms from the underground up.
For a sense of their range, 'Duvido Você Não Tomar Uma' has that raw early energy, while 'Começar de Novo' leans into something more melodic.
Xamegarte came out of São Paulo's underground in the late '90s with a sound that wasn't just metal or hardcore, it had Brazilian rhythms in there too. Songs like 'Duvido Você Não Tomar Uma' and 'A Cura da Alma' show how they handled social themes without softening their edge. They kept at it for decades, putting out records like O Poder da Periferia in 2010 and Sistema Falido in 2018.
They formed in 1996 with Thiago Gonzaga on vocals, Guilherme Ribeiro on bass, and Duda on drums. Early albums included O Peso do Mundo in 1998 and Fogo em Nosso Coração in 2002, followed by later ones like Nós Somos a Resistência in 2014.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
