Xamego Legal formed in Rio de Janeiro in the mid-1990s with Marcelinho Oliveira on vocals, Rodrigo Costa on guitar, and André Costa and Flavio Marinho providing rhythm. Their debut album 'Sentimento Louco' came out in 1996 and found an audience with its mix of samba and pagode rhythms given a contemporary feel.
Songs like 'Ainda Te Amo' and 'Não te quero mais' dealt plainly with love and its complications. The band's straightforward approach to these themes, delivered through Oliveira's expressive voice over those Brazilian rhythms, connected with listeners.
They faced some financial trouble in the early 2000s but kept going.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
