Xanadu was a musical project from 1980 that brought together Olivia Newton-John and Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra. Their self-titled debut album that year included songs like 'I'm Alive' and 'Magic,' which became the project's most recognizable tracks.
The music came from the film adaptation of the same name, which was widely criticized at the time. Despite the film's reception, the songs themselves found an audience. 'All Over The World' and 'Strange Magic' also appeared on that album.
Newton-John's vocals and ELO's production created a specific sound that was both pop and slightly theatrical. The project didn't continue beyond that initial collaboration, but those songs have remained in circulation.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
