Syhr left the band in 2018, leaving Thanah to continue with new musicians. They released 'Of Rust and Bone' in 2016 and 'Embers in the Dark' in 2018, with songs such as 'Deus Absconditus: Part II' and 'The Sound Of a Glinting Blade' showing their evolving approach to melancholic themes.

In 2019, allegations surfaced online about inappropriate behavior by a former member. Xanthochroid addressed this by condemning the actions and distancing themselves from that individual.
