Xekemate formed in São Paulo in the early 2000s with Leo Fressato on vocals, Luiz Gustavo on guitar, Dudu Borges on bass, Mario Seve on drums, and André Tedesco on keyboards. Their debut single "Diga Sim Pra Mim" caught on quickly, and they followed it with albums like "Livre Pra Viver" and "Um Novo Dia."
Their sound leaned into pop-rock with some alternative touches, and songs like "Eu Estarei Lá" and "Único Culpado" kept a straightforward, melodic approach. They played Rock in Rio in 2008 and released a live album from that show.
Some critics called their work too commercial or sentimental, but the band kept making music that connected with their audience. They put out five studio albums through 2010, including "Infinito," and tracks like "Opções" rounded out their catalog of accessible, guitar-driven pop.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
