Xereteiros do Forró formed in Fortaleza in 2003, started by brothers Xandinho and Xandinho Neto. They played forró, a traditional Brazilian style built around accordion and upbeat rhythms, at local bars and street festivals. In 2008, their single "Disputa de Bumbum" caught on nationally with its danceable beat and suggestive lyrics.
The band's lyrics and performances sometimes drew criticism from conservative groups, but they kept to their style, saying it reflected Fortaleza's street culture. In 2014, they faced a plagiarism accusation over a melody in "Disputa de Bumbum," though the case was dismissed. Their recordings include albums like "Xereteiros do Forró" from 2005 and "Forró do Xeretê" from 2012.
Xereteiros do Forró's lineup has Xandinho on lead vocals and accordion, Xandinho Neto on backing vocals and accordion, Marquinhos on bass, Deguinho on electric guitar, and Dedé on drums. They've put out several albums and singles, staying active in Brazil's forró scene.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
