Xexel formed in São Paulo in 1986 with Xexéu on vocals and guitar, Chitãozinho on bass, and Pinguim on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1988 and included 'Eu Faço Música,' which became a national hit. They followed it with albums like 'Made in Brazil' in 1990 and 'Novo Mundo' in 2000.
Their sound mixed samba, rock, and reggae, heard on tracks such as 'Vestido Bonito' and 'Vira Latas.' In the early 1990s, they faced accusations of using an unauthorized sample in one of their songs, though the matter eventually faded.
Xexéu's energetic presence anchored their live shows, with Chitãozinho's bass work and Pinguim's drumming driving the rhythm. Songs like 'Reino Universal dos Bêbados' and 'Não Devemos Nada' kept their music in rotation on Brazilian radio through the 1990s and beyond.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
