Background notes

Archive material and source history

xGUMBYx came out of Seattle in the late 1990s, around the time the grunge scene was fading. They put out their first album, 'Kill Everyone,' in 2001. The title track became their most recognizable song, and the record's aggressive sound and lyrics drew immediate attention, some of it critical. The band's frontman went by the name Gumby.

Their shows sometimes attracted protesters, and they had trouble booking certain venues. In 2004, Gumby was arrested following an incident at a concert where a fan got hurt. They kept putting out albums like 'Die Now' and 'Burn the World' over the next few years, sticking to a heavy, confrontational style. The band stopped working together in 2007.
