Xil Ríos formed in Galicia in 1984 with Xosé Luís Rivas, Paco Lodeiro, and Manoele Sánchez. Their first album, 'Os tempos son chegados,' came out the following year. They put out a few more records like 'O son da estrela' and 'O mar de Vigo' in those early years.
Their song 'A Peneira' came out in 1986 and became their best-known track. They also recorded 'Alalà o meu mare,' 'Falemos Galego,' and 'Nosa Galicia.' The band's lineup shifted over time, with Rivas handling vocals and percussion, Lodeiro on guitar and vocals, and Sánchez on synthesizers and vocals.
They worked with other Galician musicians including Amancio Prada, Luar na Lubre, and Carlos Núñez. Their lyrics often touched on social and political themes, which sometimes stirred discussion. The music mixed traditional folk elements with more contemporary sounds.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
