X!nk formed in 1997 with Magali Luyten on vocals. Their music often drew from dark historical themes, like the song about 15th-century French nobleman Gilles de Rais. Luyten said she was using history to reflect on human darkness, not glorifying it.
Their debut album was called 'The Black Opera,' and they followed it with records like 'Trauma' and 'Catacombs.' The band's sound pulled from industrial, metal, and gothic elements, and you can hear that blend in songs like 'Gek Zijn' and 'Laat me vrij.' Other members included Bart de Vos and Stefaan Maas on guitars, Luc Van de Poel on bass, and Patrick Codenys on drums.
X!nk stopped playing together in 2005. Their work touched on taboo subjects and challenged some norms, which earned them both dedicated listeners and vocal critics.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
