Xote-Baião formed in Campina Grande, Brazil in 2004, started by accordionist André Macedo with vocalist Messinho and percussionist Babal. They play forró, a traditional Brazilian genre, and have released albums like 'Forró do Sertão' in 2008 and 'Do Nordeste Pro Mundo' in 2017. Their song 'Meu Cenário' became particularly popular at festivals.
Over time, other musicians joined including zabumba player Renato Matos, bassist Pedro Manoel, and vocalist Dércio Marques. Their music includes tracks like 'Amar é Bom' and 'Vida De Farra' that work within the forró tradition without trying to reinvent it completely.
In 2019, there were some plagiarism accusations around their song 'Doce Namorado,' though these were eventually dismissed. The band continues to perform, with Macedo's accordion typically driving their sound alongside the zabumba and bass.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
