Archive material and source history
Xote Bakana formed in 2009 with Rafael Almeida on vocals, Allan Farias on zabumba, Guilherme Lopes on triangle, and Saulo Laranjeira on accordion. They're from Northeast Brazil, and their music draws on regional rhythms like xote and baião.
Their debut album came out in 2013, also called Xote Bakana. It included the song "Talismã," which got a lot of attention online and on radio. They've since put out two more albums: Tô Ligado in 2016 and Serenata in 2020.
In 2015, there was some talk about whether a melody in "Talismã" was borrowed from another song. The band denied it, and the issue didn't seem to go much further. They've played at festivals outside Brazil, including Coachella and Bonnaroo.
