Xote Carioca formed in 1995 in Rio de Janeiro's Lapa neighborhood. Their sound mixed traditional Brazilian genres like forró and xote with rock and reggae elements. The band released their self-titled debut album in 2000.
Their 2002 song "Pátria Amada" became their most recognizable track, reaching national attention with its blend of catchy melody and political themes. The song appeared on their second album of the same name. They've released several studio albums since, including "A Flor da Pele" in 2008 and "Verso e Prosa" in 2016.
The group's lineup has included vocalists Dudu Nobre and Julio Andrade, guitarist Fernando Macaé, bassist Marcos Sacramento, drummer Gilson Placidino, and saxophonist Vandré Faleiro. They recorded a live album in São Paulo in 2004 and marked their 25th anniversary with a release in 2020.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
