Xote de Colo formed in Serra Talhada, Pernambuco in 1995, with Kleber Araújo on vocals and guitar, Cecílio Neto on bass, and Carlinhos Navegantes on drums. They started playing local festivals while working with traditional Northeastern folk sounds. Their 2006 song "Lenda do Dragão" became their most recognizable track, telling a story about a serpent-like creature guarding hidden treasure.
They've released several albums including "Forró de Rasgar" in 1998, "A Chama do Forró" in 2000, and "O Dragão" in 2006. Other songs like "Madrugada Triste" and "Baião Das Fofoqueiras" show their range within the forró tradition. The band has worked with artists including Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil.
The current lineup includes Kleber Araújo, Carlinhos Navegantes, Júnior Araújo on bass, Andreza Nery on backing vocals, and Anderson Araújo on accordion. They recorded a live album in their hometown in 2010 called "Ao Vivo em Serra Talhada."
