Xote de Viola formed in the late 1990s in Arcoverde, Pernambuco, led by vocalist and composer Carlinhos Cavalcanti. Their sound draws from the rhythmic dance form called xote, along with samba, forró, and baião. The band's 2001 debut album 'Balacobaco' gave them their breakthrough, with the title track becoming a radio hit across Brazil.
They followed that with albums like 'Na Base da Bossa' in 2003 and 'Samba de Primeira' in 2006. In 2007, they faced criticism and legal proceedings over allegations that their song 'Chuva de Prata' borrowed its melody from another artist's work, which was eventually settled.
The group includes Cavalcanti on vocals and guitar, Alessandro Lobo and Anderson do Acordeon on accordion, Cleybson Andrade on zabumba, and Nelson Moreno on bass. They've continued recording and performing, with later releases like 'Festa na Roça' in 2017 and '20 Anos' in 2019.
