Xote o Som formed in Recife in the early 1990s, with founding members Toninho Ferragutti on vocals, Edgard Scandurra on guitar, and Marcelo Bonfá on bass. Their debut album, also called "Xote o Som," established their sound with straightforward rhythms and narrative lyrics. The song "Só Pra Lhe Agradar" became one of their better-known tracks.
Later albums like "Ideologia" and "Nova Aurora" touched on themes of social justice and personal relationships. Their music drew from Brazilian folk, samba, rock, and reggae, though they never settled into a single style. Another song, "Vou Sequestrar Você," shows their range within that mix.
They maintained a consistent lineup with Ferragutti, Scandurra, and Bonfá through most of their recordings. Their work stayed in rotation on Brazilian radio for years after its release.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
