Xoxote came together in Rio de Janeiro in the early 2000s with four members: Renato Gaspar, Leonardo Mendes, Alexandre Gonçalves, and Ramon Rodrigues. Their sound pulled from funk, samba, and hip-hop, and they found a breakthrough with the single "Vem Carolina." That song's catchy melody and danceable beat caught on quickly, pushing the band into a wider spotlight.
Their debut album, "Xoxote com Carinho," came out in 2003 and set the tone for what they did. They followed it with records like "Vem Dançar com Xoxote" in 2004 and "Ritmo Quente" in 2006. Other songs in their catalog include "Forró-Reggae," "Nascer o sol," and "7 Conchas."
At their height, they worked with other Brazilian artists like Anitta, Preta Gil, and Mr. Catra. They toured around Brazil and played shows abroad, building a following for their energetic live sets.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
