XP formed in São Paulo in 1995 as a quartet. Their lineup included João Paulo Simões on vocals and guitar, Pedro Furtado on guitar and vocals, Fernando Almeida on bass, and Mauricio Takara on drums. The band's song 'Lembra' became a notable track, exploring themes of memory and nostalgia.
In 2002, guitarist Pedro Furtado died in a motorcycle accident. The band continued after his death, releasing albums like 'Acústico' in 2003 and '5' in 2007. They put out six studio albums between 1998 and 2020.
João Paulo Simões was arrested in 2008 on drug possession charges that were later dropped. The band's music, including 'Lembra,' maintained a following in Brazil through their recordings.
