XTASIS formed in Mexico City in the late 1990s, with founding members Juan Manuel Mejía on vocals, Sergio Ávila on guitar, Alejandro Flores on bass, and Javier Rosales on drums. Their debut album came out in 2002, and its lead single 'Redencion' became a hit. The band's sound mixed heavy metal with traditional Mexican melodies.
Their lyrics often tackled social and political issues, which drew criticism from some groups. Their live shows were known for being provocative, leading to accusations of blasphemy.
Later albums included 'Sombras del Ayer' in 2005, 'Pecados del Cielo' in 2008, and 'El Legado' in 2012. The music incorporated progressive rock and symphonic metal elements alongside the Mexican folk influences. The current lineup has Mejía and Ávila still there, with José Pablo 'Chato' Rosas on bass and Gerardo 'Gerry' Enciso on drums.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
