xTHEWARx formed in the early 2000s with vocalist and guitarist Joey DiBiase, bassist Matt Hedrick, and drummer Matt Greiner. Their music pulled from thrash and hardcore, with lyrics touching on warfare and personal struggle. Songs like "Defend Your Honor" and "Kill An Emo Kid" became staples for fans drawn to that sound.
DiBiase and Greiner stayed with the band through lineup changes that included guitarist Chris Harris, bassist Jamey Jasta, and guitarist Dino Cazares at various points. They put out seven studio albums, three live records, and a number of singles and EPs. Their music landed in video games, films, and TV shows.
The band faced criticism for aggressive live shows and lyrics some saw as glorifying violence. They maintained their music reflected real-life harshness rather than promoting hate. Through that, they kept recording and playing, with "Priest Of Pain" and "Reactions" among the tracks that continued to find an audience.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
