Y&T formed in San Francisco in the late 1970s with Dave Meniketti on vocals and guitar, Phil Kennemore on guitar, Leonard Haze on bass, and Joey Alves on drums. The name stood for Yesterday & Today. They built a following in the Bay Area with a sound that had both melody and a harder edge.

Their 1984 album "In Rock We Trust" included the single "Face Like An Angel," which reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other songs from their catalog include "I Believe In You," "Knock You Out," and "(Your Love Is) Driving Me Crazy." They released albums like "Earthshaker" in 1981 and "Mean Streak" in 1983.

Some critics labeled them as a heavy metal band, but they kept playing their own style. The lineup changed over time, and they continued to tour and record.
