Y Stereo formed in Austin, Texas around 2007 with Chris McFall on vocals and guitar, Brian Thomas on bass, and Josh Garza on drums. Their debut EP 'Dear Science' came out in 2010, featuring the track 'Damn Right' that got some attention for its mix of electronic textures and indie rock energy. They followed with albums like 'Notes from a Lost Soul' in 2013 and 'In Between the Shadows' in 2016.
Thomas left the band in 2014, and they brought in a new bassist for a while. McFall ended up departing in 2018. Beyond 'Damn Right,' they had other songs like 'I Know I Know You Know' and 'The Real You' that carried a similar mood of confessional lyrics over driving arrangements.
Their music didn't break through in a huge way, but it found listeners who connected with its directness. The recordings they left behind, especially that early EP, still get played by people who remember when they first heard 'Damn Right' on a local station or through a friend's recommendation.
