Yaeji

Yaeji is Kathy Yaeji Lee, born in Seoul, South Korea. She started making music that pulls from hip-hop, R&B, and electronic sounds, with much of it shaped by time spent in clubs. In 2017, her track 'Raingurl' got attention for its hazy synths and her quiet, half-spoken vocals over a steady house pulse.

Her first EP was called 'EP2,' and she put out a debut album titled 'With a Hammer' in 2020. Songs like 'Drink I'm Sippin On' and 'Feelings Change' keep that same intimate, late-night mood, minimal beats, airy production, and lyrics that drift between English and Korean. She works alone on recordings but sometimes brings other musicians onstage for live sets.

There's a Korean-American background to her music, though she tends to let the sound do the talking rather than framing it as a statement. The music stays low-key and personal, more about atmosphere than big declarations. It's the kind of thing that works in a dimly lit room, not a festival stage.
