Yafah Yarkoni was born in Jerusalem in 1925 and started singing in the late 1940s, performing at local clubs and military bases. Her recording of 'Ani Ohev Otach Yaladah' in 1949 became a national sensation in Israel, a song that stayed in the popular repertoire for decades. She also recorded other songs like 'Adaniah' and 'Agalah Im Susah' from her catalog.
Her association with the Palmach paramilitary organization also drew attention during a period of political tensions in Israel.
Yarkoni worked with various musicians including guitarist Yehuda Sharett, violinist Yoel Shalit, and drummer Yaacov Goren. She passed away in 2012.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
