Yair formed in Buenos Aires in the late 1990s, a rock band whose name translates to "cat in the dark." Their debut album "Un Gato En La Oscuridad" came out in 2001 and gave them their breakthrough. The title track became their most recognizable song, a moody piece that stuck around in Argentine rock playlists.
They kept recording through 2014's "Alteración," with Hugo Bistolfi on vocals and guitar, Mauro Canonaco on bass, and Juan Pablo Navarro on drums. Their sound shifted over those years, moving from heavier rock toward more acoustic and experimental territory. Other songs like "Amada Amante" and "Santa Lucía" show that range.
There were rumors and some public trouble along the way, including an arrest for Bistolfi on drug charges. The band denied darker rumors about their image. They released an album called "Luz" in 2021 and announced a farewell tour for 2023.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
