Yamana formed in Bogotá in 2003 with Marce and Felipe at the core, later adding drummer Juan and guitarist Dani. Their debut album 'Esencia' came out in 2007, mixing Andean flutes, Afro-Caribbean beats, and rock elements. The band's sound drew some criticism for being too experimental compared to traditional Colombian music, but they kept working with that blend.
They've released albums like 'Vuela Mariposa' in 2010, 'Alma' in 2012, and 'La Sinfonía de los Pájaros' in 2016. Songs like 'Vuela Mariposa' and 'Buscame' show their range from poignant ballads to more rhythmic tracks. The current lineup includes Marce on vocals and guitar, Felipe on bass and vocals, Juan on drums, and Jairo 'Samba' Perea on percussion.
Yamana has collaborated with artists including Residente, Totó la Momposina, and Inti-Illimani, bringing different cultural influences into their music. Their work has found listeners across Latin America and Europe without losing its connection to Colombian roots.
