Yampiara Flow is a Colombian band led by singer-songwriter John Jairo Rivera. They came up in Cali, where Rivera started working on music early, drawing from salsa and hip-hop. The group played on street corners and at local events while trying to get noticed.
Their song 'Pensando En Ti' was among their releases. Some listeners questioned whether their music was original, and others said their lyrics about city life seemed to celebrate violence. Rivera and the band pushed back, saying they were just writing about what they saw around them.
They kept putting out music that connected with people in Colombia. Their first record came out, but the existing history cuts off there.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
