Yanny Moscovits was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1972. He started writing songs as a teenager and performing at local festivals around the city. His debut album 'Eu Quero Estar' came out in 1999, and the title track became a hit that got him noticed nationally.
That first album had a straightforward samba sound, with songs like 'Não Dá' and 'Segredo' that worked well on radio. He kept releasing records through the 2000s, including 'Mundo Real' in 2003 and 'Acústico' in 2009. His band included Silvio Costa on bass and Rafael Luz on drums.
In 2002 there was a plagiarism lawsuit about one of his melodies, though it was eventually dismissed. Moscovits has sometimes made blunt comments about the music industry that have drawn attention, both positive and negative.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
