Yasmin Ravelly grew up around samba, bossa nova, and Brazilian folk music, which shaped her approach to writing and performing. Her debut album came out in 2006, followed by 'Canto das Três Raças' in 2010, which became her most recognized work.
That song, 'Canto das Três Raças,' addresses racial harmony in Brazil and has been taken up as something of an anthem on the subject. Her lyrics often touch on social issues, which has drawn criticism from some conservative quarters, but she has generally kept writing what she wants to write.
She has worked with musicians like Fernando Costa on guitar, Rafael Amorim on bass, and Thiago Gomes on drums. Later albums include 'Raízes' in 2015 and 'Sambas e Bossa Nova' in 2020.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
