Yasmin Silva comes from Tauá, a small town in Ceará in northeastern Brazil. She started singing and playing guitar at local events, drawing inspiration from the rhythms of vaquejada, a traditional equestrian sport from that region.
Her debut album in 2012 took its title from the song 'Eu Te Vi Lá Na Vaquejada,' which became a hit. That track and others like 'Jogada de Amor' helped build her following with a sound that mixes forró with pop. She has released several albums since, including 'O Vaqueiro' in 2014 and 'Forrozeiro do Coração' in 2016.
Some listeners have questioned whether her music leans too commercial, but she has kept making songs rooted in the culture she grew up with. Her work includes later albums like 'A Vaquejada É Nossa Cultura' from 2018 and 'No Ritmo do Forró' from 2020.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
