Yasunori Mitsuda was born in Tokushima, Japan in 1972 and started composing music around age 15. He joined Square in 1995 and worked on soundtracks for games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. His compositions from that period, including pieces like 'Beyond the Sky' with Sarah Alainn's vocals, established his reputation for creating atmospheric, emotionally resonant music for video games.
After leaving Square in 2002, Mitsuda continued composing and collaborating with various musicians. He's worked with vocalist Sarah Alainn on several tracks, and his music has been performed by ensembles including the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Songs like 'Radical Dreamers' and 'Small Two of Piece' show his continued focus on melodic, often haunting compositions.
In 2017, Mitsuda returned to video game scoring with Xenoblade Chronicles 2. His work there maintained the atmospheric quality he'd developed earlier, with tracks that blended orchestral elements with more contemporary sounds. The music from that project, along with earlier pieces like 'Nusumenai Houseki,' represents his ongoing approach to game scoring.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
