A British dance-pop act best known for the global hit "The Only Way Is Up."
If you only know one Yazz song, it's "The Only Way Is Up." For a deeper cut, try "Sweet Thing" or "Situation."
Yazz gave us one of those late-80s dance anthems that just stuck around. "The Only Way Is Up" was everywhere in 1988, topping charts in the UK and Ireland with its upbeat, motivational feel. Their catalog also includes tracks like "Sweet Thing" and "Stand Up For Your Love Rights," which filled out a couple of studio albums before the group faded.
They formed in 1987 around Alison Moyet, who was already known from Yazoo. After the huge success of "The Only Way Is Up," they released two albums but faced industry conflicts over sampling. They didn't keep up that initial momentum, though that single has stayed recognizable.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
