Yazz Official formed in London in 1982 with Alison Moyet on vocals, Andy Hill on keyboards, Robin Bancks on guitar, John Barnes on bass, and Marc Fox on drums. Their first album, 'Upstairs at Eric's,' came out that same year.
Moyet's voice gave the band its most recognizable element, a raw and emotive quality that stood out in British pop at the time. Their song 'Ilusión' became a notable track for them.
They had a sound that mixed soul and funk with pop structures, though they sometimes pushed against commercial expectations. The band's work from that period, including songs like 'No Queda Más Que Decir' and 'Tenerte,' reflects that blend.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
