Ybla formed in Messina in 1974 with brothers Marcello and Maurizio Giorgianni on vocals and guitar, Rosario Musumeci on bass, and Franco Mineo on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 1977, followed by 'Planet U' in 1979. The band's lineup changed over time, with Marcello Giorgianni and Franco Mineo eventually leaving.

Their song 'Claudia' from the 'Planet U' album became their most recognized track. They also recorded versions of the same melody with different titles in multiple languages, including 'Yo Te olvidaré', 'JE T'OUBLIRAIS', and 'Io Ti Scorderò'.
