Year Long Disaster formed in Seattle in the early 2000s, with Michael Larsen on vocals and guitar, Nathan Harrop on guitar, and Gavin Miller on bass. Their debut album, 'Leda Atomica', came out in 2006 and gave the band its name from the title track, a slow-burning piece that leaned into shoegaze and post-punk textures. They put out a handful of albums over the next decade, including 'The Infinite Eighteen' in 2009 and 'Absence is Presence' in 2012.
Miller left around 2010 and was replaced by bassist Joe Maloney. The group kept recording, with later albums like 'Sinner's Prayer' and 'The Dead Sea' arriving in 2015 and 2018. Their sound stayed rooted in atmospheric rock, often described as moody or introspective, with songs like 'It Ain't Luck' and 'Running Free' showing their lean, guitar-driven side.
Year Long Disaster never broke into the mainstream, but they built a steady following among listeners drawn to darker, more textured indie rock. Their records didn't chase trends, and they seemed content working within their own lane, a band that made the music they wanted to make, without much fuss.
