Year of Desolation formed in 2000 around guitarist Jake Kincaid and drummer Kyle Murphy, later adding bassist John Carnicero, vocalist Nick Santoro, and rhythm guitarist Alex Carter. Their debut album, 'Songs of Desolation,' established their sound with heavy riffs and pounding rhythms that found an audience in the underground metal scene.
Their second album, '539,' took its title from a number tattooed on a Holocaust survivor's arm. The record included tracks like 'All In Vain' and 'Consume The Destroyer,' which continued the band's exploration of dark themes through relentless instrumentation. Some listeners found their work confrontational, while others connected with its intensity.
Over time, Year of Desolation's music maintained a raw, unforgiving quality, with songs like 'Elitist Death Squad' and 'Erasing Your Existence' reflecting their consistent approach. They toured and played festivals, building a following drawn to their particular brand of heavy sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
