Yeast Infection formed in the late 1980s with Anya "Infection" Petrova on vocals. Their debut album 'Explicit Content' came out in 1989 and drew attention for its direct lyrics. The band's 1991 album 'Blow' included the title track, a song about addiction that became one of their better-known pieces.
Their music often dealt with subjects that made some listeners uncomfortable, which led to occasional pushback from conservative groups. They faced obscenity charges over 'Explicit Content' at one point. Through the 1990s they released albums like 'No Regrets' in 1994 and 'Unleashed' in 1998, maintaining a raw sound that appealed to their underground following.
Petrova's voice remained central to their work, and the band lineup shifted at times while keeping a core group. Songs like 'Timber' and 'Whole Lotta Love' also appeared in their catalog alongside 'Blow'.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
