Yellow Cherry formed in Japan around 2005, with Yuiko Tsubokura on vocals and Yukihiko Tsunematsu on guitar. They were joined by bassist Kohei Honda and drummer Ken Shiraishi. Their debut single "Ipponme" came out in 2006 and did well, a ballad about unrequited love that connected with listeners.
In 2008, Tsubokura made some public comments on social issues that drew mixed reactions. A couple years later, Honda was in a traffic accident that forced the band to postpone a tour. They released albums like "Yellow Cherry" in 2007 and "Sora no Koe" in 2009, along with songs like "Kimi Wo Omou." The group's sound leaned toward pop with rock elements, built around Tsubokura's voice and straightforward songwriting.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
