Yellow Matter Custard was a Beatles tribute band formed in 2002 by musicians who had previously played together in other Beatles-related projects. The name comes from a line in the Beatles song 'I Am the Walrus,' and the group was specifically assembled for a series of concerts celebrating John Lennon's music.
Their setlists focused heavily on the Beatles' later, more experimental work, including songs like 'A Day In The Life,' 'Dear Prudence,' and 'Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey.' These performances were essentially one-off events rather than a touring act with a traditional discography.
The lineup featured guitarist Mike Portnoy, guitarist Paul Gilbert, bassist Billy Sheehan, and keyboardist Derek Sherinian. They played a handful of shows in 2002 and 2003, with their performances later released as live albums. The project was a temporary collaboration by musicians known primarily for their work in progressive rock and metal, coming together specifically to play Beatles material.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
