Yellowman, born Winston Foster in Jamaica in 1956, started performing as a youth and released his debut single 'Mr. Chin' in 1978. His breakthrough came with 'Going to the Chapel' in 1982, which became a hit in Jamaica and helped propel him to wider recognition. He followed that with albums like 'Showcase,' 'Mister Yellowman,' and 'Zungguzungguguzungguzeng.'
His music often featured witty lyrics and upbeat rhythms, with songs like 'Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt,' 'Getting Divorce,' and 'Blueberry Hill' among his notable tracks. His high-pitched voice and albinism made him visually and vocally distinctive in the reggae scene.
He collaborated with UB40 on their cover of 'Red Red Wine,' which helped maintain his international profile. Over his career, he released more than 50 albums, including later works like 'Yellow Again' in 2002.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
