Yerba Fresca was a Bolivian band that formed in Cochabamba in the early 1980s. They were led by vocalist Jenny Cardenas and accordionist Mario Vargas, and their sound mixed traditional Bolivian rhythms with dance beats. In 1988, they released "Bailando Lambada," which became a global hit and sparked a dance craze.
Their other songs include "Buena Mujer," "Dulce Miel," "Isla Bonita," and "Llego La Fiesta de San Juan." The band's lineup changed over time, with members like Edwin Calle on guitar and Sergio Antezana on drums. They released albums such as "Baila Conmigo" in 1987 and "Pampa y Cielo" in 1989.
"Bailando Lambada" faced some criticism for its lyrics and dance moves, but that didn't slow its popularity. Yerba Fresca kept recording into the 1990s, with albums like "Amor en Bolivia" in 1991.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
