Yi Sung Yol started out in the pop duo LPG in 2000, then went solo two years later with his album 'My First.' He's a singer-songwriter from Daejeon, born in 1979, and his music pulls from Korean folk, pop, and R&B. Songs like 'Someday' and 'Til The End' show his style, which tends to lean toward soulful melodies and lyrics about love and loss.
In 2009, he had to deal with a vocal cord polyp that put his singing at risk, but he worked through it with therapy. He's been outspoken on social and political issues at times, which has drawn some criticism. His band includes Kim Jung Soo on guitar, Park Seung Hyuk on bass, and Choi Hyun Ho on drums.
He's put out albums like 'Another Way' in 2004, 'Someday, Tell Everything' in 2007, 'The One' in 2011, and 'Love Is' in 2014.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
